How long have you been a Professional Photographer? How did you get into it?
I became truly interested in the storytelling aspect of photography as a hobby while I was studying abroad in Thailand. An inspiring photojournalism class at UNC-Chapel Hill with Jock Lauterer made me want to be a photographer. My first job was as a Sports and News Photographer for The Winston Salem Journal. But it wasn’t until 2011 when I moved to Asheville and fell in love with the mountains, that I transitioned into a Wedding and Headshot Photographer.
What’s your style?
Earthy. Raw. Emotive. Uncontrived images.
What makes you unique from other photographers?
I am deeply present. I want to capture the true you, just as you are: laughing, snorting, crying, opening. I’m sweet and generally hard-not-to-like. I give space for you to open and unfurl in an authentic, unique and special way. I put noticeable heart into taking and editing your photos.
Do we meet ahead of time to discuss my wedding?
If you live in or near Asheville, or come to visit, we can most certainly meet for coffee. I love to get to know you before I bring out the camera. But, if meeting in person is not possible or high on your list of to-dos, the first time we meet can be your wedding day.
How far in advance do I need to book?
The earlier the better, I recommend 1 year out from your wedding date to ensure that the day is yours. With that said, I’ve also had people contact me two weeks before their wedding date, and it just happened to work out. But in general, begin early.
Do I get to pick the location?
If you have a a vision of what photos you would like to create and where (some people do), then I will follow your lead. I’m also happy to make suggestions and location recommendations if you don’t know where to go.
How quickly do I get the pictures back?
Weddings take 1 month to return the images, Headshots and Family Sessions take 1-2 weeks.
How many photos will I receive?
The short answer: a lot! I like to be copious and giving when it comes to photos, I want you to have a wide-selection of perspectives and facial expressions to choose from! For Weddings, approximately 400 photos. Headshots and Family sessions, 100-150 photos.
Will you do any digital retouching?
I want you to look your best, meaning i want you to look like you! Left to my own devices, I’m light-handed in the editing process: I’ll cover up a whopping zit or brighten an image that feels too dark. If you have requests, please let me know.
I like the black-and-white/sepia/ vintage tone, can you include some photos in that form?
Of course, about 30% of the photos you receive will have a secondary copy in one of those tones.
How do I pay?
By check, cash or paypal.
When do I pay?
For Weddings, you make two payments, a 25% non-refundable deposit to reserve your date, and the rest on your wedding day. You may leave the check with your wedding planner for me to pick up or I can check in with you directly regarding payment at the end of the night. The payment on your wedding day can only be cash or check, I will not have a card reader on hand.
Do you bring a second photographer?
Usually it is just me. Depending on your wedding size and photography needs, a second photographer is sometimes arranged for full day weddings (8 hours).
Do you do small weddings, elopements, engagements?
Yes, contact me directly for pricing.
